Our Mission

The Swartz Wingman Foundation is a non profit organization that was founded to honor the short and great life of Eric Swartz and to carry out his life’s work, which was to help people.  We choose to help individuals afflicted with the same illness that ultimately ended Eric’s life, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can occur after you have been through a traumatic event. A traumatic event is something terrible and scary that you see, hear about, or that happens to you, like:

  • Combat exposure
  • Child sexual or physical abuse
  • Terrorist attack
  • Sexual or physical assault
  • Serious accidents, like a car wreck
  • Natural disasters, like a fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, or earthquake

During a traumatic event, you think that your life or others’ lives are in danger. You may feel afraid or feel that you have no control over what is happening around you. Most people have some stress-related reactions after a traumatic event; but, not everyone gets PTSD.  If your reactions don’t go away over time and they disrupt your life, you may have PTSD. Untreated, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be life altering and debilitating, as it was with Eric.  However, with proper treatment, individuals with PTSD can lead a happy and normal life.  We know that had Eric received treatment, that he would still be with us today.  Sadly, Eric is one of many (and the numbers are rising), of individuals who are losing their lives as a result as PTSD be it suicide or passing away in their sleep, as it was with Eric.  We ultimately hope to become a treatment facility with knowledgeable and caring professionals, who share Eric’s passion for helping others.  For the time being, we are focusing on raising money and getting ourselves organized so that we can reach our ultimate goal of being a treatment facility.

Our kickoff Event will be on July 22, 2012 at Nesbits Bowling Alley in Plum, PA.  July 22nd would’ve been Eric’s 30th birthday.
